Thanks to everyone who participated in our first annual Adoption Fair and Microchip Clinic! The kind folks at National Mill Dog Rescue and North Shore Animal League let us use their van so we could show off our cats and the lovely ladies of Vet Techs to You ran the microchipping so we could help protect yours.
We had lots of fun vendors, including Melissa’s Play and Treat Pet Service, Natalia with Healthy Pets Colorado, Curtis and Sylvana with Kittycat Creations, Lisa’s Paparazzi Jewelry and Lisa’s Pet Pads.
The Rebel Legion and Catwoman helped us spread the word with their on-street fun, while Ferg and Hurley kept everyone in order. We even kept everyone fed and hydrated with sloppy joes, pop and snacks.
Willa found her forever home, Bruiser went home a few days later and Meeka has a hold. Best of all, we helped make sure that 18 cats will be able to find their way home, should they ever get lost.
The sloppy joes were a hit, so here’s the recipe if you’d like to make them yourself:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion (chopped)
- 2/3 cup ketchup
- 3 tbsps brown sugar
- 1 tbsp mustard (yellow)
- salt
- pepper
Brown ground beef with onion and salt and pepper if you like. Drain.
Stir in ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard.
Bring up to a simmer and allow to cook for five minutes more.
Serve on toasted hamburger buns.
