Happy Cats is always in need of people who can take into their homes (and their hearts) kittens and cats who need extra TLC before they can come into our colonies. We take in many abandoned teen moms, kittens and adults who have been found trying their best to survive while hoping to find a family of their own.
We provide the resources (including food, litter and vet care) and ask that you provide a safe space and love. If you have an extra room and a few extra hours a day, you can help a needy kitten or cat become even more adoptable!
Kittens
Who doesn’t love kittens! Kittens are undeniably cute and many families would like their children to experience their magic. However, many kittens don’t make it into a loving home simply because there are too many cats for the number of adopters. Allowing a cat to add another litter of kittens to the thousands that will be born–this year alone–only increases the chance each kitten will grow up to face needless suffering or an early death.
Other families may not be able to have cats because someone in the family has allergies. Some have found that having foster kittens in one room allows some family members to experience feline fun while keeping other members happy and feline free.
Kittens have about a 4-month window to be socialized to grow up to be the kind of cat who doesn’t end up in a shelter: friendly, well-mannered and loving. Teaching a child how to meet the needs of animals and how to read their body language has been proven to increase empathy and patience. You’ll have tons of fun and can feel great about saving these little lives instead of adding to the problem of feline overpopulation.
Cats
Sometimes we take in cats who are a little more challenging to place, such as seniors or cats who don’t like other cats. These cats are generally healthy and adoptable but sometimes need a little “vacation” from Happy Cats in order to stay happy. Others may need some extra behavioral work in order to really shine when they come into our colonies. Welcoming one of these cats into your home can be just as rewarding as having kittens.
